How to stop birds from eating chicken feed

Shiny objects deter birds.

My Mom had a problem with small birds stealing chicken feed from her flock.

The solution was to hang up shiny CD's that scare small birds.

Back in the old days folks would use an old pie tin in place of CD's.

Ha ha ha! I tried the CD scare tactic years ago. I put them on my clothesline because they always sat on the clothesline and then pooped on my clean clothes. The result? The birds ignored the CDs and kept sitting there anyway!

I've been noticing recently how some little tiny finches and sparrows get into the movable coop I have and apparently are eating some of the feed that the chickens don't eat. I put up a bird feeder around the corner from where the coop is. I think the birds have just figured out that it's there because I saw a cardinal and another bird eating out of the feeder.

Our problem is keeping cardinals and chickens from eating the dog's food.
