Salad Ideas
Once you start eating in
season,
you'll quickly realize that the tomato, lettuce, and cucumber salad is
a farce --- lettuce is best in spring, fall, and winter when tomatoes
and cucumbers are only far-off memories. But what else can you
put in a lettuce salad? Here are some ideas:
- grated carrots
- Egyptian onion tops
- roasted almonds
- sliced strawberries (or softened strawberry jam in winter)
- snow or sugar snap peas
- chopped oranges
- dried fruits or vegetables - cranberries, raisins, and tomatoes
are all good choices (although perhaps not together)
What are your favorite
in-season salads?
