The Walden Effect: Farming, simple living, permaculture, and invention.

Name that seedling quiz, part 2

Now that you're all warmed up, let's try some harder seedlings:

Carrot seedling

Parsley seedling

Asparagus seedling

Cosmos seedling

From top to bottom, the seedlings are carrot, parsley, asparagus, and cosmos (a flower.)  You might be able to tell that both carrots and parsley are in the same family since they have similarly narrow and pointed cotyledons (the tiny "leaves" you see at the base of the plant).

Asparagus and cosmos are both more vertical, with leaves growing up along a stem.  The asparagus leaves are much narrower than the cosmos leaves, though.  (I guess I need to transplant all of these self-seeded asparagus to a new home!)
